1. عرّجا بين رسوم المغاني

    وسلاها يا أيها الرجلانِ

    Wander between the drawings of songs

    And ask about her, O two men

  2. يا دياراً بالغوير قفاراً

    وعمارا كنتِ مَغْنى الغواني

    O homes in Al-Ghuwair desolate areas

    And buildings, you were the song of singers

  3. كيف عدنا عودةً فقعدنا

    من عهدنا فيك منذ زمانِ

    How did we return and sit

    From our era in you since time

  4. حين همّوا بالفراق أَتموا

    ثم زمّوا كلَّ صعبٍ هِجانِ

    When they intended separation, they completed

    Then they bridled every rugged rupture

  5. واستقلّوا للنّوى ثم حلّوا

    حين كلّوا منزلاً غير داني

    And set out for the intention, then settled

    When they all dwelt in other than lowly abode

  6. في جوار نازَح عن مزار

    لجوار حسنات البنانِ

    In the vicinity of one who moved from a tomb

    To the vicinity of the beauties of girls

  7. شكلاتٍ بالصّبا كحلات

    رتلات كل خَوْدٍ حَصانِ

    Forms with youth like markings

    Processions, each tender horse

  8. ذاتِ وجهٍ لا يقاس بشبهٍ

    هو مُلهٍ لك عن كل شانِ

    Of face that cannot be compared to any likeness

    He is fascinated with you in every matter

  9. وبَصْلتٍ هو في كل وقتٍ

    بدرُ ستٍّ بعدهُن ثمانِ

    And disconnected, he is at every time

    Full moon after them then eight

  10. وبخدّ مسّه رَدْعُ نَدّ

    وبقدٍّ مخجل الغُصن بانِ

    And with a cheek touched by refusal of request

    And with a stateliness shaming the tender branch

  11. وبثغرٍ ذي عوارض غُرٍّ

    مثل دُرٍّ هنَّ أو أقحوانِ

    And with a mouth of tender crescents

    Like pearls they are or little wild apples

  12. واسيلٍ ورقيق صقيل

    وطويل فيه عقد جُمانِ

    Smooth and polished slope

    Long in it a knot of pearls

  13. من لصبٍّ شفَّه طيف حبٍّ

    حشو قلبٍ دائم الخفقانِ

    From saliva whose shade passed love

    Filling a heart constantly fluttering

  14. مُستهام ذي جوىً وغرامٍ

    وسقام في يد الحبّ عاني

    Bewildered with ardour and passion

    And sickness in the hand of love, suffering

  15. رهنُ بعدٍ يتعتريه بوَجدٍ

    ريحُ نجد أو وميض اليماني

    Pawn to distance troubled by ecstasy

    Breeze of Najd or flash of Al-Yamamah

  16. ما احتمالي للأذى من شمالي

    حيث مالي بالهموم يدانِ

    I cannot bear harm from my north

    Where my possessions leaned, two hands

  17. صاح إني محسنٌ بك ظّني

    فانفِ عني حَزَناً قد عراني

    Cry! I think good of you

    So turn away sorrow that has pained me

  18. أولياني نشوةً تسقياني

    واسقياني من نجيع الدّنانِ

    Give me an intoxication that waters me

    And give me to drink from the good vine

  19. باجتماعٍ من نَدامى سراعٍ

    واستماعٍ لطريف الأغاني

    In the gathering of the swift's repentants

    And listening to the witty songs

  20. وندامٍ همُ ظرافٌ كرامٌ

    ومدام واصطفاق قِيانِ

    And drink that they are gentle, generous

    And clarified wine bowls

  21. وارتشافٍ لِمجاجَةِ صافِ

    من سُلاف هي كالأقحوانِ

    And sipping the pure

    Of drink like the little wild apples

  22. صَفَّقوها ثم إذا رَوَّقوها

    رَقْرَقوها فصفت في القناني

    They tapped it, then when they savored it

    They gurgled it, so it described in goblets

  23. كصفاءٍ شأنه بوفاءِ

    في إخاءِ ذانك السّيدانِ

    Like the purity that suits loyalty

    In the brotherhood of you two gentlemen

  24. حين شادا شرف الأزد سادَا

    ثم زادا فهما علمانِ

    When they gave excellence to Al-Azd, they ruled

    Then they increased, so they are two flags

  25. ذاك ذهلٌ بالمواهب سَهلٌ

    وهو أهلٌ للسجايا الحسانِ

    That one is confused with gifts, easy,

    And he is worthy of fine qualities

  26. وأيادي يعربٍ كالغوادي

    ما لوادي جوده الغمر ثاني

    And hands of generosity like the valleys

    No valley matches his overwhelming generosity

  27. من فُتُوّ شُرِّفوا بعُلوٍّ

    وسَمَوهُ للنّدى والطّعانِ

    Of chivalry they were honored with height

    And elevated them to dew and spears

  28. وإناسٍ أهل جودٍ وباسٍ

    والتماسٍ للعلى وامْتنانِ

    And people, people of generosity and open-handedness

    And seeking the height and favor

  29. حيث ضاقت لَزْبة ثم تاقت

    وتلاقت حَلقاتُ البِطانِ

    Where narrowness tightened then desired

    And the rings of the interior met

  30. وتراهمْ يُنزِلون ذَراهم

    من عَراهم من لهيف وجاني

    And you see them putting down their possessions

    From their nudity, from enthusiastic and beautiful

  31. والسّجايا صافياتْ العطايا

    للبرايا مَن نأى والاداني

    And fine qualities, pure gifts

    To the lands, he who is remote and brought near

  32. كلُّ ندبٍ فارجٍ كل كربٍ

    يومَ حرب لعلى المجد باني

    Every appeal absolving, every distress

    On the day of war to the builder of glory

  33. بجياد وسيوفٍ حدادٍ

    وصعادٍ مشرعاتٍ لِدانِ

    With steeds and polished swords

    And loftiness, outstretched to judge

  34. ومِلدٍّ ذي مضاءٍ وجدّ

    مسعدٍ لي أورع غير واني

    And birth of brightness and fervor

    Auspicious to me, beyond description

  35. ذي جبين مشرقٍ ويمين

    كلّ حين جمّة الهطلانِ

    Of shining forehead and right hand

    Every time the pouring of downpours

  36. فهو عارٍ من أثام وعَار

    ذو شعار من تقىٍ وصيانِ

    So he is innocent of sins and disgrace

    Of a symbol of piety and protection

  37. فابقيا في نعمةٍ لا توافي

    بالقوافي أو بدفع المعاني

    So remain in grace that does not meet

    With rhymes or with rebuttal of meanings

  38. حُسنُ نظمي من جواهر علمي

    صَوغ فهمي وانتقاد بياني

    Beauty of my composition from gems of my knowledge

    Casting of my understanding and critique of my rhetoric

  39. أين مثلي حين يُظهر فضلي

    حسنُ عقلي وبيانُ لساني

    Where is my like when my virtue appears?

    Beauty of my mind and eloquence of my tongue

  40. فبقيتم للعلى ورقيتم

    ووقيتم صولةَ الحدَنان

    So you remained for height and ascended

    And were protected from the assault of scolders
