From you comes bounty, from me gratitude and longing
Wherever the rain falls becomes a place of resort
Good custom, Abu Hassan, has accustomed me
That I have no patience or contentment without you
No glimmer of hope from you ever shone
Except that it met pouring rain in profusion
The rain of your generous hands, you who placed them
With me, brings me the greatest joy that can be placed
For one like you, most generous to me
Gives freely while one like me contrives gratitude
You never granted me a boon except I met it
With juicy words of unceasing praise
And I have an eloquent tongue among the sons of Umar
To thank you, meanings invented just for you
The benefactors without delay when they promise
And the favor-givers without stint when they grant
And you, O Zuhl, are foremost among them, learned
Resolute, not hesitant or cowering
Long may you live and increase the outstretching of a hand
Rising above the highest rank and ascending
Exalted, you have taken on nobility from the branch of the lofty
As the towering summit takes on cracks and crevices
