1. أجِدَّك ما يَصحو الفؤادُ المعذَّبُ

    على النأي لا ينفكُ يصبُو ويطربُ

    I find you whenever my tortured heart awakens

    To remoteness that does not cease to yearn and delight

  2. وهل فاجعٌ بالبْين والنأي راجعٌ

    وهل مغضبٌ بالصدق والهجر معتبُ

    Is there a grieving soul with separation, who returns?

    Is there an angry one with truthfulness and estrangement, who makes amends?

  3. وهل هيَ إلا زَفرة القلب تغتلي

    بحر الهَوى أو عبْرة العين تُسكبُ

    Is it but a sigh of the heart that twines

    In the sea of passion, or a teardrop of the eye that spills?

  4. أمُغرىً بأنواع الهوى متعلّقاً

    بأسباب لهوٍ قلمَّا يتقضَّبُ

    Deluded by the kinds of passion, clinging

    To the causes of a fleeting infatuation

  5. أما طرفك المستَطرف الحُبّ مُقصرُ

    ولا مُستقِر قلبُكَ المتقلّبُ

    Has your roving eye that loves grown negligent?

    Is your fickle heart no longer settled?

  6. نصدَّ وأنت الوامِق الصَّب تارةً

    وتشكو وأنتَ المُعرضُ المتجنِّبُ

    You spurn while being the lofty one of steadfastness at times

    And complain while being the one who turns away and avoids

  7. على كل حالٍ لا إِعتزاز لعاشقٍ

    يلين لأمر الحبّ أو يتصعَّبُ

    In any case, there is no pride for a lover

    Who yields to the command of love or finds it difficult

  8. وللشوق سلطانٌ على الصبر والهوى

    يجدَّ باسرارِ النفوسِ ويلعبُ

    Passion has power over patience and love

    Plays with the secrets of souls and frolics

  9. ألم ترها مفقودةً شفَّ قلبها

    لظىً بينَ أحشاء الحَشى يتلهَّبُ

    Did you not see it missing, pitying its heart

    Burning between the ribs with agony

  10. وأعجلها فرْطُ الهوى عن بقائها

    إلى ان يؤوبَ النَّازحُ المتغرّبُ

    And the excess of passion hastened it without its presence

    Until the absent one who migrated returns

  11. أَبا العَرَب السامي لكَ اللهُ محسناً

    عزاءَ وما عمَّا قضى اللهُ مهربُ

    O Father of the Arabs, may Allah reward you

    With solace, for that which Allah has decreed cannot be avoided

  12. ولمَّا أَتى الأمرُ الذي لو شَهدتَّه

    لظلّ الأسى من حسنِ صبركَ يعجبُ

    And when the matter that, had you witnessed,

    Sadness at your beautiful patience would have amazed, occurred

  13. جزعنا ونُبنا عنك بالحزنِ والبكا

    وفعلُك في أمرِ المصيبةِ أعجَبُ

    We panicked and wept for you in sorrow and tears

    Yet your action in the face of tribulation was more amazing

  14. أبِنْ لي ألم تُنبئكَ عنها بوارحٌ

    من الطَّيرِ تنعَى أو من الوحش تندُبُ

    Tell me, did the birds not inform you about it

    Mournfully commemorating, or did the beasts not wail?

  15. وهل طافت الأحلام نحوك ليلةً

    بما أحدثَ المقدورُ عنكَ المغيَّبُ

    Did dreams revolve around you one night

    With what destiny had concealed from you, O vanished one?

  16. فلا يؤتمْنك اللهُ في عزمِ فرقةٍ

    تَعمدَّتها إذ كنتَ في الفضل ترغبُ

    May Allah not afflict you with the intention of a separation

    You deliberately pursued, though you aspired to excellence

  17. عَجِلتَ بوشكِ البينِ قبل أوانِه

    فَوا عَجبا حتى كأنكَ مذنبُ

    You hastened the eve of parting before its time

    So wondrously as if you were guilty

  18. وعدتَ لتعجيلِ القضاءِ مُبادراً

    بسيركَ يُفني في الطريق وتنصَبُ

    And you returned to hasten the decree

    Departing on your journey which exhausts and is paved

  19. تظنك تدنو من حبيبٍ وداره

    وأنتَ إلى مستأنَفِ البعدِ تقربُ

    You think you near a beloved and their abode

    While you draw nearer to the renewed distance

  20. لتنجحَ من وَجْهَيْ طريقكَ حائزاً

    ثواباً واجراً عند ربك يُكتبُ

    To succeed in both directions of your journey, attaining

    Reward and compensation from your Lord that is recorded

  21. أتيتَ على الحج الذي قد قضيتَه

    وأنتَ على هذا المُصابِ مثوبُ

    You came upon the Hajj which you had fulfilled

    While you are rewarded for this affliction

  22. ومثلكَ ميمونٌ سعيدٌ مبارك

    مُلقَىًّ صلاحاً حيثُ تنوي وتذهبُ

    And the like of you is auspicious, fortunate, blessed

    Casting righteousness wherever you intend and go

  23. هنيئاً لك الأجرُ الذي تستتمُّه

    بعاقبةِ الصَّبر الذي هو أوجَبُ

    Congratulations on the reward which you complete

    With the outcome of patience, which is most warranted

  24. وأهلاً بك اسنتقذتنا من بلابلٍ

    تَعثَّرُ فيهنَّ القلوبُ وتُنكبُ

    And welcome, you saved us from tribulations

    In which hearts stumble and fall

  25. بدا عارضُ الجود المُلثُ الذي له

    على كل قُطرٍ من حيا القَطْر صَيّبُ

    The visitor of generosity appeared, who has

    In every region of the homeland, a shower

  26. وأوفَت سماء العُرفِ وامتدَّ ظِلُّها

    فلا غيمُها خِلْب ولا البرْق خلَّبُ

    And the sky of virtue is fulfilled, its shade extending

    So its clouds are not fleeting, nor its lightning fragmented

  27. فَعالكَ محمود وخيمكَ صالح

    وفرعكَ ميمون وأَصلك طيبُ

    Your deeds are praiseworthy, your encampment righteous

    Your branch auspicious, and your origin pure

  28. إذا عُدَّ أخلاقُ الكرام وفضلُهم

    فأنت الجوادُ الأريحيُّ المهذَّبُ

    If the morals and virtues of the generous are counted

    You are the refined, gentle, well-mannered one

  29. وإن ذكرَ الإِقدامُ والبأسُ في الوغى

    فأنت الشُّجاعُ الشَّمريُّ المجرَّبُ

    And if courage and might in battle are mentioned

    You are the valiant, bold, experienced one

  30. وإنْ قيل مَنْ خَيرُ الملوك فإنما

    زنادكَ أوْرَى أو شهابك أثقبُ

    And if it is said, who is the best of kings,

    Your Zanad is more piercing, or your Shahab more penetrating

  31. غدا الدهرُ يُبدي حسن سَعيك في الورى

    ويُعْرب أنْ خير البرية يَعْربُ

    Tomorrow time will show your good effort in the world

    And prove that the best of creation are the Arabs

  32. قصدْتَ لحج البيتِ أكْرمَ وافدٍ

    أُنيل المنى فيه مِنىً والمحَصَّبُ

    You headed to pilgrim at the Most Noble House

    I attain purpose therein, and the climb

  33. وزرْتَ رسول اللهِ اكرمَ زائرٍ

    زهَتْ بمساعيه الجميلةِ يَثربُ

    You visited the Messenger of Allah, the most honorable visitor

    Yathrib glowed with his blessed efforts

  34. وأنتَ فشرَّفت البلادَ وزنْتَها

    وأنت إلى كل القلوب محبَّبُ

    You are the one who ennobled the lands and gave them weight

    And you are beloved to all hearts

  35. فلا كان للاحداثِ نحو مذهبُ

    ولا فات عن أقصى مَرامِك مَطلب

    So there was no tendency for events

    Nor did any goal elude your purpose

  36. نِعْمَ الشَّرابُ المصطفَّى من دَم العنب

    ليس المعذَّب بالحامي من اللَّهبِ

    Excellent is the drink from the grape’s blood

    When it is fermented, not scorched by flames

  37. وحَبَّذا المجلسُ المأنوسُ يحضُرهُ

    على المُدامَةِ أَهلُ الحُكمِ والأدبِ

    And blessed is the intimate gathering attended

    By the people of wisdom and literature over wine

  38. هناك تسمعُ ألفاظاً مهذبةً

    فيها بديعُ معانٍ ليس بالكذبِ

    There you hear refined words

    With ingenious meanings, no lies

  39. فإن أحلى الأغاني ما اتاك به

    شعرُ الستاليِّ مدحاً في أبي العربِ

    For the sweetest songs are those brought to you

    By the poetry of the interface, praising the Father of the Arabs

  40. يُطري أبا العَرب العالي عُلىً وندىً

    على ملوك الورى بالسَّبْقِ والغَلَبِ

    It causes the Lofty Father of the Arabs to soar and rise

    Above the kings of the world with precedence and triumph

  41. مهذب مُزجت بالجودِ شيمتُه

    كما مزجتَ لُجينَ الصِّرف بالذهبِ

    Well-mannered, his virtues mixed with generosity

    As you mixed unpurified gold with pure

  42. وإِن سما يعرُب بالأزدِ مفتخراً

    يوماً فما شئتَ من مجدٍ ومن حسبِ

    And if he boasts of being an Arab of the Azd

    Whenever we attribute to him glory and lineage

  43. أولئك السادة الأملاكُ من يمنٍ

    أهلُ الأسرَّةِ والتيجان والرُّتبِ

    Those chiefs are kings from Yemen

    The people of influence, crowns and positions

  44. غُرٌّ محاسنُهم سارت فضائلهم

    بين المحافل بالأشعارِ والخُطبِ

    The beauty of their praiseworthy traits spread

    Among gatherings, through poems and speeches

  45. لا يقدر الناسُ إِلا الاعترافَ لهم

    بفضلهم في الرضى منهم وفي الغضبِ

    People cannot help but acknowledge

    Their merit, whether content or angry with them

  46. وأنتَ يَعْربُ في عليا بني عُمَرٍ

    إذا نسبناك خيرُ ابنٍ لخيرِ ابِ

    And you, O Arab, are among the highest of Bani Umar

    When we relate you as the best son of the best father

  47. بقيتَ مُعْطىً مدى الدنيا عُلىً وغنىً

    مُؤتى الأمانيِّ فيها مُدرك الطَّلبِ

    You remain endowed with glory and wealth for time eternal

    Fulfilling wishes therein, attaining every goal
