Does every refined, openhanded man
Every refined person with generous hands
Seem bound to repay us a debt?
As if we owe him a debt
So bear with my frequent return to the bond you have forged
So patience, for I've gotten used to
Between you and me by bestowing kindness.
Giving courtesy between you and me
Affection for you was lodged deep within my heart
He established affection, filling my heart
By your bounty, which fills my eye,
Your gifts are the delight of my eyes
And that of a bright-faced, generous man of the sons of Umar,
And the purest pearls from the sea of generosity
Whose character was as pure as silver.
His manners smooth as silk
And he beamed and smiled like an ornamented sword;
Merry and bright like a polished sword
He appeared and swayed like a Rudayni spear.
Manifest and shaking like a well-balanced spear
Indeed, hopes have found good support
You have gracefully helped fulfill desires
Through the generosity of the most illustrious Abu al-Husayn.
With the kindness of the magnificent Abu Hussein
