1. The radiance of Dhuhl's face is the full moon's brilliant glow.

    And his character is musk beyond comprehension.

  2. And Dhuhl's forefathers are a people of the Azd,

    Who raised glory above the star al-Simak.

  3. And they built up their eminence and defended their domain

    With long, tawny spears and jet-black, full-grown steeds.

  4. And Dhuhl's hands bestow their bounty:

    Release, then, to every captive,

  5. And honor to a neighbor, and freedom to a prisoner,

    And gifts to a hopeful petitioner, and refuge to one in distress.

  6. And how many have sought Dhuhl's rank in glory,

    Yet have not reached even the strap of his sandal!

  7. O Abu Hasan, may you live in the shade of kingship,

    And may doom's vicissitudes destroy your enemy.

  8. You outpaced the racer and towered above the rival in eminence,

    And outstripped the competitor and surpassed the imitator.

  9. And your glory is lofty, and your fortune high,

    And your disposition is pure, and your striving fruitful.

  10. And may your sons live and attain high honors

    Through noble apportionment and fine fellowship.
