O daughter of Ahmad Yaqub, you have made sport of us;
You stirred anxiety and sorrow in the distraught.
How many a youth have you beguiled away from an enchantress’s spell;
No youth has ever come to you without becoming captivated by you.
How many a discerning man have you robbed of his reason, love-bewildered,
Until he became lovesick, in burning anguish and suffering.
Long had I heard this said of you,
And paid it no heed—until I myself was captivated.
