1. أثَارَ غَريّمى وشَجَا عُقَيلِى

    طُلَيلٌ لِلحُبَيِّبِ بالتُّلَيلِ

    My beloved provoked my passion and made my reason ache

    A pleasing companion for the darling with intimacy

  2. نَظرتُ رُسَيمَه فجرى دُمَعِيى

    وسَالَ على نُحَيرِى كَالسُّيَيلِ

    I saw his breeze, so my tears flowed

    And streamed down my cheeks like torrents

  3. فَظَلَّ صُوَيحبي حَيرَانَ يَجرِى

    عُبَيرَتَه بِذَيَّاكَ الطُّلَيلِ

    So my companion remained confused, wandering

    Spreading his fragrance through that intimacy

  4. فَطَالَ نُهَيرِى وغَلى نُفَيسِى

    وطَارَ سُهَيدِى وَدَجَا لُييبلِى

    So my weeping grew long and my soul boiled

    And my patience flew away and my heart darkened

  5. وَقَفتُ بِه فَلاَمَ عُوَيذِلى في

    وُقُوفي في عُرَيصَتِهِ جُمَيلِى

    I stood with him, so he blamed my humiliation in

    My standing in his beautiful embrace

  6. ومِمَّا قَد شَجَاني فِيهِ أني

    ذَكَرتُ دُهَيرَه زَمَنَ الوُصَيلِ

    And of what pained me in it was that I

    Remembered the days of union with him

  7. زُمَيناً شَدَّ حَادِثُهُ عُضَيدِى

    وجَمَّعَ مِن فُرَيقَتِهِ شُمَيلِى

    A time whose events cracked my bones

    And gathered what was separated of me

  8. عَشِقتُ غُزَّيلاً أحوَى أُلَيمَى

    مُحَيحِيلُ الجُفَينِ بِلاَ كُحَيلِ

    I loved a gazelle who made my pain more intense

    Who softens rock without effort

  9. مُخَيطِيطِ المُتَيينِ إرتِوَاءً

    مُسَيدِيلُ الفُرَيعِ على الكُفَيلِ

    Who schemes to quench longing

    Who brings near the distant with little trouble

  10. مُعَيشِيقَ النُّعَيمَةِ والمُحَيَّا

    مُوَيمِيقَ الوُصَيلَةِ والدُّلَيلِ

    The taste of his saliva is a taste more delicious

    Than wine or honey

  11. طُعَيمُ رُوَيقِهِ كَطُعَيمٍ أشهَى

    دُنَينٍ مِن خُمَيرٍ أو عُسَيلِ

    His saliva falls on the insides of the generous

    From the generous souls

  12. تُبَيلُ لُحَيظِهِ أدهَآ وَقَيعاً

    بِأحشَاءِ النَّبِيلِ مِن نُبَيلِ

    The wave of misfortune if it turns

    Full of evil and ignorance

  13. بُوَيني المُيَيسةِ إِن تَثني

    مُمَيلَىءُ السُّوَيِّر والحُجَيلِ

    A beloved whose market is terrible

    An erupting fountain of love

  14. مُحَيبِيباً سُويقَتِهِ الرُّوَيَّا

    اُنَيبِيبٌ مُسَيقِىُّ الغُيَيلِ

    He sought the rope of love, even if

    He reached the ends of the ropes of love

  15. مُصَيرِيمَ الحُبَيلِ مَن ابتَغَاهُ

    وإِن أمسَى مُوَيصِيلَ الحُبَيلِ

    The knower of his change tells a story

    About a meadow the rains have watered

  16. عُرَيفُ تُغَيرِهِ يَحكِى شُمَيماً

    عُرَيفَ رُوَيضَةٍ أثَرَ الوُبِيلِ

    A moon in a soft night in a prairie

    Its surroundings a wasteland of sand

  17. قُمَيرٌ في لُيُيلٍ في رُمَيحٍ

    حَوَالَيه حُقَيفٌ مِن رُمَيلِ

    A jealous person distracted me from visiting him

    Slandering chiefs along with nobles

  18. عَدَاني عن زُوَيرَتِهِ شًُخَيصٌ

    مُذيمَيمُ الفُرَيعِ مَعَ الأُصَيلِ

    One who degrades glory among people

    One who carries disgrace like a parasite

  19. مُحَيذِيفُ الرُّتَيبَةِ في النُّوَيدِى

    مُحَيمِيلُ النُّفيقَةِ كالطَُّفَيلِ

    Famous for humiliation and equality

    Criticizing intellect and reason

  20. مُشَيهِيرُ الُّذلَيلَةِ والمَسَاوي

    مُنَيقِيصُ الفُكَيرَةِ والعُقَيلِ

    Spreading villainy constantly

    Shedding decency and virtue

  21. مُنَيشِيرُ السُّرَيقةِ كُلَّ آنٍ

    مُبَيتِيرُ الخُصَيلَةِ والفُضَيلِ

    Bearing shame like thunder

    Lacking in dignity like straw

  22. مُثَيلِيمُ الرُّجَيلَةِ كالرُّويعِى

    مُخَيدِيشُ الجُبَيهَةِ كالكُهَيلِ

    Initiating evil

    Denouncing speaking in ignorance

  23. مُسَيئِيمُ الخُلَيِّقَةِ إبتَدَاءً

    مُنَيكِيرُ القُوَيلَةِ في الحُويلِ

    Lessening iron, like a Khurasani

    Melting rock like pitch

  24. مُقَيلِيلُ الحُدَيدِ خُويرِجِىٌّ

    مُصَيرِيفُ الجُعَيرَةِ كالجُعَيلِ

    Disregarding the affairs of the exalted

    Quick to villainy and ignorance

  25. أُبَيطَا عَن حُويمَاتِ العُلَيَّا

    أٌسَيرِعُ لِلخُنَىِّ ولِلجُهيلِ

    Attracting hearts to evil

    Rushing to sin

  26. مُجَيذِيبُ القُلَيبِ إلَى السُّويئَا

    مُبَادَرَةَ الُُطَيِّةِ لِلوُشَيل

    Existing, as if dead, from a body from a tail

    Described with every bad description

  27. مُويجِيدٌ مُعَيدِيمٌ حُوَىٌّ

    مُمَيتٌ مِن وَغَيدٍ مِن نُذَيلِ

    Known for questioning and stinginess

    Always drunk and gluttonous

  28. مُوَيصِيفٌ بِكُلِّ وُصَيفٍ سُوءٍ

    مُعيرِيفُ السُّؤَيلِ والبُخَيلِ

    Selling his love, his mouth filthy

    Like a carcass from an elephant

  29. سُوَيهٍ عن سُدَيِّدِهِ لُوَيهٍ

    دُوَيماً في الشُّرَيبِ والأُكَيلِ

    Standing for the teacher, with an old man

    Sick in his tribe, disabled

  30. مُتَيبِيعُ الهُوىِّ لَهُ فُوَيهٍ

    نُتَينٌ كالجُييفَةِ مِن فُيَيلِ

    Opposing propriety, for him a boy

    Standing for the corrupt and petty

  31. قُويفٍ لِلمُرِّيِّدِ ذُو شَيَيخٍ

    دُوَىٍّ في قُبَييِّلِه عُلَيلِ

    A head in ignorance, in a tribe

    Wealthy without a need for plans

  32. مُعَيدِىِّ النُّظَير لُه وُرَيدٌ

    قُوَيفٌ لِلفُسَيِّقِ والزُّلَيلِ

    He came with his family one day and turned away

    And they are the worst of relatives and family

  33. رُؤَيسٍ في الضُّلِّيلِ في جُيَيلٍ

    غُنىٍّ بالحُرَيمِ عن الحُلَيلِ

    Cutting off kin — there is not among them

    One who values uncles or maternal uncles

  34. أتَى بِأهَيلِهِ زَمناً تَوَلَّى

    وهُم شَرُّ العُشَيرَةِ والأُهَيلِ

    A flaw in their nature, the most lowly

    They conspired for villainy and procrastination

  35. مُقَيطيعِ القُرَيبِ فلَيس فِيهم

    بِمُعتَبَرِ العُميمِ ولاَ الخُيَيلِ

    Reviving abomination and deceit

    Showing evil in ignorance

  36. نُوَيسٌ في خُلَيقتِهم أَذِلاَّ

    تَواصَوا بالغُدَيرَةِ والمُطَيلِ

    So each in his tent is a dog

    And by his perversion is a parasite

  37. وإحيَاءِ البُديعَة والهوُوينَا

    وإظهارِ العُوَيرَة بالجُهَيلِ

    There came to me from his side a poem

    Caressing lineage and gazelles

  38. فَكُلُّ في خُييمِتِه كُلَيبٌ

    وعند فِنَا جُويرِتِهِ طُفًيلِى

    From the excess of his ignorance, he did not know

    What he should say, far from proper speak

  39. أتَاني مِن جَوِّينِبِهِ شُعَيرٌ

    مُلَيحِينُ النُّسَيِّبِ والغُزَيلِ

    The novelty of his sayings, even if he goes beyond

    His limit, falls short of my worn garment

  40. لِفَرطِ جُهَيلِهِ لَم يَدرِ مِمَّا

    يَفُوهُ بِهِ بَعيداً مِن قُبَيلِ

    So he became an example and threw a poem

    Trying to be my equal

  41. جُدَيدُ قُويلَتَيهِ وإِن تَخَطَّى

    طُوَيقَتَه يُقَصِّرُ عَن هُزَيلِى

    And he threatened in his talk, as if

    He fears the evil of the suns of Suhail

  42. فَصَارَ مُثَيلَةً ورَمَى نُظَيماً

    يُحَاوِلُ أن يَكُونَ بِهِ مُثَيلِى

    He is not — even if he pretends to be fair

    And leans toward reason over justice —

  43. وهَدَّدَ في كُلَيِّمِه وأنَّى

    يَخَافُ سَنَا الشُّمَيسِ سَنَا سُهَيلِ

    Equal to the foam of an empty wilderness

    And the voice was not like a torrent in a valley

  44. فَلَيسَ وإِن تُخولِفَ في حُقيقٍ

    وميلَ إلى الجُوَيرِ مِن العُدَيلِ

    And the colt in a valley was not

    Roaring like the floods in a valley

  45. أُسَيدُ غُيَيضَةٍ كَسُوَيدٍ قَفرٍ

    ولم تَكُن الصَّويَّةُ كَالجُبُيلِ

    Answer me in the way of my saying, you whose saying

    Does not weaken against mine

  46. ولم يَكُن الفُصَيِّل في شُوَيلٍ

    هَدِيراً كالبويزِلِ في شُويلِ

    And leave me what I came with, and leave me

    My tool with which I dragged my train

  47. أجِبني في رُوَىِّ قُوَيلَتِى تِى

    ولاَ يَضعُف قُوَيلُكُ عَن قُوَيلِى

    And beware mockery, for in it is

    Evil in the mountains and in Suhail

  48. ودَع لِي مَا أتَيتُ بِه ودَع لِي

    مُعَيني قَد جَرَرتُ بِه ذُييلي

  49. وَإِياكَ اللُّحَينَ فَإنَّ فِيهِ

    عُوَيراً في الجُبَيل وفي السُّهَيلِ
