هَذِهِ البِئرُ قُنَّةٌ جَارٍ كَمَا أن

وذَوُوهَا مِن كُلِّ عَارٍ عَوَارِ

This well is a generous neighbor as though

Its people purified it of every defect and fault

ماؤُهَا للأَنَامِ جَارٍ كَمَا أن

نَ نَدَى أهلِهَا عَلَى الجَارِ جَارِ

Its water flows for people as though

Its dew drips on the neighbor, flowing, flowing

زَاخِرَاتُ البِحَارِ فَاقَت

وفاق الأهلُ في السَّيبِ زَاخِرَاتِ البِحَارِ

More abundant than seas are

The people in generosity, more abundant than seas

أهلُهَا سَادَةٌ كِرَامٌ تَرَدَّ وا

ثَوبَ مَجدٍ وسُؤدَدٍ وَوَقَارِ

Its people are noble, generous, they donned

A garment of glory, happiness, and dignity

فَمَحَطُّ الرِّحَالِ هُم

وأبَاةُ الضَيمِ قِدماً وهُم حُمَاةُ الذِّمارِ

They are the destination of travelers

And protection from wrong, forward they go, protectors of shelters

لَم يُخَف مِنهُم لَدَى السِّلمِ بَأسٌ

ولَدَى الحَربِ كالأُسُودِ الضَّوَارِي

Among them no weakness was feared during peace

Or war, like ferocious lions

وإِذَا المَحلُ عَمَّ والأُرَبَى وألبَسَتِ

الأَرضُ سَابِغَاتِ الغُبَارِ

When the abode was filled, and the dunes, and earth

Was clothed in thick dust

نَحَرُوا كُلَّ أكوِمٍ قَيسَرِىٍّ

وأُمُونٍ لِضَيفِهِم والجَارِ

They slaughtered every cumulative mount

For their guest and neighbor

أحيَوُا العِلمَ حِينَ صَارَ مَعَبرّاً

لِلَسَّوافي ومَدرجاً لِلسَّوَارِي

They revived knowledge when it became

A passage for night travelers and ladder for the elite

وفُتِىّ إلى الجَميلِ جَوَارٍ

وجَوَارٍ إلَى الجَميلِ جَوَارِ

And access to the beautiful, neighboring

And neighboring the beautiful, neighboring

بَرَّةٌ يَحمِلُونَ حِينَ تَصَدَّى

سَادَةُ النَّاسِ لاِحتِمَال فِجَارِ

Innocent, they carry when the best of people

Withstood to bear the burden of the wicked
