O you who wear the most splendid robes

Of pottery are your chambers, O son of tent dwellers

And O you who build the highest water pipes

Until the crookedness of pipes is corrected

Make for us the loftiest ambition with wisdom

With which we can roll up the miles in the black desert sands

A goal after which none could strive

Except the obstinate, resolute, daring men

Or the ship that sails with such speed

The flight of arrows and splashing of paddles

And this land despite its remoteness

The barefoot fear to tread and take its sandals
