أتيتُ دعيَّ بني العنبرِ

أروم اعتِذاراً فلم أُعْذَرِ

I came when called by the sons of musk,

Wanting to apologize, but was not excused,

فقلتُ لنفسي وعاتبتُها

على اللؤمِ في فِعلها أقصِري

So I said to myself, blaming it

For the meanness of its deed, be concise

أيعتذرُ الحرُّ ممّا أتى

إلى رجلٍ من بني العنبرِ

Does the free man apologize for what he did

To a man from the sons of musk?

أبوكَ ابنُ سارق عنزِ النبيِّ

وأمّك بنت أبي جَحدرِ

Your father is the son of a thief of the Prophet's goat

And your mother is the daughter of Abu Jahdar

ونحنُ على زعْمِك الرافضو

نَ لأهلِ الضلالةِ والمُنْكَرِ

And we, according to your claim, are the rejecters

Of the people of misguidance and denial
