1. And you are a sign for mankind after me.

You are told that they have no certainty.

  2. And you are His path that guides to Him.

And none other than you saves those who hold fast.

  3. O A'ishah, what drove you to fight the

appointed successor, and what do you resent in him?

  4. Did God not enjoin you not to

ever be seen among those who display their adornment,

  5. and to lower the veil and remain in place,

and not display yourself to onlookers?

  6. And the Prophet said to you: O Humayra,

the conduct of the envious will show itself in you.

  7. And he said: You will make the dogs of a people bark,

among the Bedouins and those who have adopted Arab ways.

  8. And he said: You will ride on a massive camel

called 'Askar, and then you will fight.

  9. So you betrayed Muhammad concerning his closest kin,

and did not heed his firmly grounded words.

  10. And the Lord of mankind sent down verses concerning him

that cooled the eyes of his loyal followers,

  11. declaring: I and the Prophet are your guardians,

as are those who give alms and bow.

  12. And whomever the Lord of mankind takes into His care one day,

they are, by my life, triumphant.

  13. And God spoke words in the Qur'an

that refute the claims you make:

  14. Obey God, the Lord of mankind, as Lord,

and Ahmad, and those who hold authority.

  15. That, then, is Abu Hasan, Ali,

and his two grandsons, the virtuous leaders.

  16. Then I said: I have taken your pledge concerning this.

So they became supporters of the appointed successor.

  17. Indeed, you have become the patron of us all,

and we do not turn away from allegiance to you.

  18. And he hears the sound of Gabriel whenever

he comes with revelation to the best of dwellers.

  19. And he prayed toward both qiblas, while the clan of Taym

and its brethren, 'Adi, were deniers.

  20. And he spent the night alone upon his brother's bed,

    protecting him from unjust tyrants.

  21. And men of Quraysh had lain in ambush,

with swords that gleamed when drawn.

  22. Then, when morning shed its light, there came

    their enemies, all thwarted.

  23. And when they saw him, they avoided him,

and they never ceased keeping clear of him.

  24. And he spent his wealth by night and morning,

in secret and with the openness of those who act openly.

  25. And he gave what he had in charity when the

poor man came to him—with a ring of those who wear rings.

  26. And he preferred his guest to himself when he came,

so he and his family remained licking their lips.

  27. So God named him, for what he had done

in preferring others, one of the successful.

  28. And who was a shelter for the poor,

a sheltered refuge when winter descended upon them?

  29. Was he not the one who favored al-Miqdad when

he came to him destitute, and he protected the destitute

  30. with a dinar, though he possessed nothing besides it?

And not all the virtuous put others first.

  31. And his food was bread and oil,

while he favored nighttime visitors with meat.

  32. And you have indeed been mentioned before a Sovereign

before whose might the arrogant bow low.

  33. Then he fell upon his face in a swoon and showed

the Lord of mankind the dread of the fearful.

  34. And he said: I have indeed been mentioned before my God.

So he showed the lowliness of the humble.

  35. And he freed a thousand souls from his own hands,

and after slavery they became freed people.

  36. Bara'ah—when he recalled 'Atiq concerning it,

and was protective of the task of proclaiming it.

  37. And the Messenger of God said: How

can any but the nearest kin convey revelation?

  38. And you are safe from every fear

    when all creatures are afraid.

  39. And your party, those closest to you, is my party,

and my party is the party of the Lord of the worlds.

  40. And God's party has no fear upon them,

nor weariness, nor do they grieve.

  41. And you are my neighbor in the gardens of eternity;

our dwellings there face one another.

  42. And in God's neighborhood you are clothed,

and the Guardian's neighbors are secure.

  43. And you are the best of all the people of the earth,

and the finest of them all in noble standing and religion.

  44. And the first to clasp my hand

when all creatures come forth, risen from the dead.

  45. And the Prophet spoke to you while you

were present, witnesses to his words:

  46. Servants of God, we are a household

whom God created, all of us pure.

  47. And Ahmad's soul flowed into his hands,

so he pressed it to his face and forehead.

  48. Come, let us summon ourselves, and let us call

all together, the kin and the sons,

  49. and yourselves; then let us earnestly supplicate

Him, that He may curse those who lie.

  50. For the Prophet said—and he was discerning—
