  1. أقول لما رأيتُ الناس قد ذَهبوا

    في كلِّ فنٍّ بلا علمٍ يَتيهونا

    I say, when I saw people going astray

    In every art without knowledge, wandering blindly,

  2. من ناكِثين ومُرَّاق وقاسطةٍ

    دانوا بدينِ أبي موسى ومُرْجِينا

    Among dissenters, deserters, and turncoats,

    They professed the faith of Abu Musa and the Postponers.

  3. إنّي أدينُ بما دان الوصيُّ به

    يوم الخُريْبةَ من قَتلِ المُحلِّينا

    I profess the faith al-Wasiyy professed

    The day of al-Khuraibah, killing the Divestites.

  4. وما به دانَ يوم النهرِ دِنتُ به

    وشاركتْ كفَّه كفِّي بصِفّينا

    And the faith he professed the day of the River -

    I profess it, and my hand joins his in the battle of the two hosts,

  5. في سفكِ ما سَفكتْ يوماً إذا حضَرت

    وأبرزَ اللهُ للقسطِ الموازينا

    In shedding the blood it shed one day when present,

    And God brought forth the scales of justice.

  6. تلك الدماءُ معاً يا ربُّ في عُنقي

    ثم استقِني بعدَها آمينَ آمينا

    That blood, O Lord, is on my neck collectively,

    Then purify me completely after it, amen, amen!

  7. آمينَ من مِثلهم في مثلِ حالهمِ

    في فتيةٍ هاجَروا للهِ شارينا

    Amen, from the like of them in their state -

    In noble youths who emigrated for God, buying Him through striving.

  8. ليسوا يُريدون غيرَ الله ربِّهمُ

    نعمَ المرادُ تَوخّاه المُريدونا

    They want none but God their Lord,

    Excellent is the goal the desirers sought!

  9. وطبتمُ في قديمِ الدهر إذ سطرت

    فيه البريَّةُ مَرحوماً ومَلعونا

    You were blessed in the early days of time when it inscribed

    Upon it “Blessed” and “Damned”.

  10. ولن تَزالوا بعينِ الله يَنْسَخُكُم

    في مستكنّاتِ أصلابِ الأبرينا

    And you will never cease to be erased by God

    In the loins of the righteous forefathers,

  11. بختارُ من كلِّ قَرنَ خيرَهم لكمُ

    لا النذلَ يُلزمُكمْ منهم ولا الدّونا

    Who selects the best of every generation for you -

    Not the base, nor the inferior, to oblige you.

  12. حتى تناهت بكم في أمّةٍ جُعلتْ

    من أجلِ فَضلكم خير المصلِّينا

    Until He brought you to an appointed nation

    Made the best of those who pray because of your merit.

  13. فأنتم نعمةٌ لله سابغةٌ

    منه علينا وكان الخيرُ مَخزونا

    So you are a complete blessing from God upon us

    And the good was treasured up.

  14. لا يقبلُ اللهُ من عبدٍ له عملاً

    ولا عدوَّكم العميَ المضلِّينا

    God accepts no deed from a servant for Him

    Nor an enemy of yours, the blind misguided.

  15. أنت الوصيّ وصيّ المصطفى نَزلتْ

    من ذي العلى فيك من فرقان آيونا

    You are the Trustee, trustee of al-Mustafa -

    Verses descended to you from the All-High in the Furqan.

  16. وأنت من أحمدِ الهادي بمنزلةٍ

    قد كان أثبتها مُوسى لهارونا

    And you are to Ahmad the Guide as was

    Established by Moses for Aaron.

  17. آتاك من عندِه عِلماً حَباك به

    فكنتَ فيه أميناً فيه مأمونا

    He gave you knowledge from Him, endowed you with it,

    So you were trustworthy in it, secure in it.

  18. هل مثلُ فعلكَ عند النَّعلِ تَخصِفُها

    لو لم يكنْ جاحدو التفضيلِ لاهينا

    Is there any deed like your rubbing his sandals,

    Had the deniers of your merit not been vile?
