أتتنا تُزفُّ على بَغلة
وفوقَ رِحالتها قُبَّهْ
She came to us in bridal procession on a she-mule,
She came to us carried on a camel
and above her saddle was a canopy:
And above her mount a dome
زبيريّةٌ من بنات الذي
أحلَّ الحرامَ من الكِعبَهْ
a Zubayrid woman, one of the daughters of the man
A Zubairiyyah among the daughters of the one
who violated the sanctity of the Kaaba.
Who made lawful the unlawful from the Kaaba
تُزفُّ إلى ملكٍ ماجدٍ
فلا اجتمعا وبها الوَجْبَهْ
She is led as a bride to a noble king—
She was brought to a glorious king
so may the two never unite, and may death be upon her!
But they did not unite though duty called
