1. People reproached us over you and called us foolish.

And confronted us with hostility and strife.

  2. So they said—and their speech was lengthy—

Do you pin your hopes on a man who has met his death,

  3. And has remained in residence, while people are prey

To Time's vicissitudes, left as corpses and skulls?

  4. So we baffled them, doing nothing but holding fast

To love of you, O son of Khawla, and clinging to it.

  5. So our answer to them was: You have shown ignorance,

And you have failed, by Him who created all beings!

  6. Indeed, the dweller in Radwa's ravine is now

    Exchanging words with the angels.

  7. Come, greet the dweller in Radwa's ravine,

And offer him greetings of peace at his abode.

  8. And say: O son of the designated successor, may my soul ransom you!

You have prolonged your stay on that mountain.

  9. Harm has come to a band among us who were loyal to you,

And called you the caliph and the imam,

  10. And for your sake opposed all the people of the earth—

From your staying away from them for seventy years.

  11. Indeed, in the leafy reaches of Radwa's ravine now dwells

A just imam who follows an imam.

  12. And the son of Khawla has not tasted death,

Nor has the earth covered his bones.

  13. And surely there he has a fine noonday resting place,

And noble assemblies that converse with him.

  14. God guided us, when you went astray, to a cause

Through it and in adherence to it we seek fulfillment—

  15. The fulfillment of love for the Mahdi, until

You see our banners following one another in ordered array.

  16. You see his banners in al-Sham, black,

And amid the dust you take them for a dark dust cloud.

  17. Then he demolishes what the factions built there,

And its people suffer torment from him,

  18. In recompense for what they did; and there shall perish

Their tyrants, and you shall exact vengeance indeed.
