    ظ للعشاق قتاله

    The maidens are bashful as the desert dawn

    To lovers, their glances deal fatal blows

  2. فكم من قائلٍ حين

    رآها وهي مختاله

    How many a suitor when he saw her glide

    Swaying with pride fell captive to love's throes

  3. أفي أجفانها المرضى

    من القاررة شبا له

    Do her heavy eyelids that ache with disease

    Harbor for him fires that incessantly glow?

  4. بدت ما بين أترابٍ

    لها كالبدر في الهاله

    She seemed mid her friends like the moon in its halo

    Robed in the hues of the reddening clouds' glow

  5. عليها من ثياب الصو

    ن ما تسحب أذياله

    The train of her gown furrowed the soft sand

    As she gracefully walked with a languid tread

  6. أيا ظبية بطن الخي

    ف ضيف رام إنزاله

    O doe of the vale, a guest hopes to meet you

    The hollow is near, soon his goods will be unloaded

  7. قراه قبلة فالبي

    ن قد قرب أحماله

    Its directed to kiss you, for the tryst was so decided

    Though many urged love, I listened not to what they said

  8. فكلم لاحٍ على حبي

    ك لم أصغ لما قاله

    For lovers must daringly breach all bounds

    And disregard the reproofs of even the wise and staid

  9. ومن سنة من يعش

    ق أن يعصي عذاله
