قد وَفَتِ المُزْنُ بميعادِها
وخَصَّتِ الرَّوْضَ بإسعادِها
The season has kept its promise,
Bestowing bliss upon the garden.
وأخمدَتْ شُعْلَةَ إبراقِها
وسكَّنَتْ ضَجَّةَ إرعادِها
It has dimmed the glare of its lightning,
And stilled the crash of its thunder.
وأضحَتِ الأغصانُ قد نُظِّمَتْ
غَرائبُ الحَلْيِ بأجيادِها
The boughs now are decked out,
Adorned with wondrous beauty.
وأوجهُ الأيامِ مبيضة
تُخبرُ عن رِقَّةِ أكبادِها
The days’ faces shine brightly,
Betraying the softness within.
والعيشُ في طيب أثانينها
إذا تَفكَّرْتَ وآحادِها
To live in its fair days
Is pure joy and delight.
وقد صَفَتْ بالزَّهرِ المُجتلى
مَوارِدُ الرَّاحِ لوُرَّادِها
The breeze’s halting-places
Are lined with choicest flowers.
فزُرْ بنا سوداءَ مصفودةً
في غَمْرَةِ الماءِ بأصفادِها
Come visit dark Sūdā’, fettered
In the water’s depths, chained tight.
كأنَّها زِنجيَّةٌ واصلَتْ
حَنِينَها من ضيقِ أقيادِها
She seems an African captive brought here,
Yearning in her bonds for release.
إذا نضَى الصُّبحُ سوادَ الدُّجى
لم يَنْضُ عنها سُودَ أبرادِها
When dawn dispels the dark,
Her blackness is not erased.
طريقُ مَنْ خافَ لها لُجَّةً
يقطعُ في أحشاءِ أولادِها
He who fears her hazards
Must cross inside her guts.
