1. Lofty glory is impulses and gladness,

    And going forth to battle, morning and evening;

  2. And favors spurred on by promises,

Just as the winds drove the clouds.

  3. O sword of God, O mountain of the

World, and O its sea from which bounty is sought!

  4. So may the valiant hero be your ransom, and the king

Looked to for bounty, and the mighty noble youth!

  5. It is wrong for us to say of one like you: 'He is ransomed

By the flawed and by miserly souls.'

  6. How can hillocks ransom towering peaks—or how

Can shallow water be equated with deep waters?

  7. Through you sword-edges cut, and full-grown steeds gallop,

And death charges, and weapons grow bloodstained.

  8. A journey in which good fortune shines for you:

Blessing guided it, and success sought it out.

  9. Amid an army like night, your face is a

Lamp whose radiance has shone forth—nay, daybreak.

  10. Behold the foe, a speckled serpent fleeing from you; there steals

Toward him on his night journey an appointed doom.

  11. Your bounty's servant has lingered for two months:

So either a bond that keeps him alive, or release.
