Abu Ishaq, O my mountain,
where I take refuge, and my stronghold;
and O my sword, with which I attack,
and O my unhallowed ground, and O my sanctuary.
I have shed my blood, and I lack
the offspring of the vine and generosity.
And my poverty is not for lack of money;
but its absence is my poverty.
And before me is something that puts to shame
the blackness of pitch and darkness.
You see the uvulas barring it
when it stands before my mouth.
So I cannot stomach it unless
it has the hue of roses and ʿanam.
So a little of the grape cluster's blood
I shall put in place of my blood.
