1. أحبِبْ إليَّ بإلْفٍ ذِي مُساعَدَةٍ

    لا أتّقي الكأسَ منه بالمعاذيرِ

    Bring me the wine with helping hands,

    I do not avoid the cup with excuses.

  2. يقولُ خُذْها وكفُّ الصُّبحِ قد أخذَتْ

    في حَلِّ جَيبٍ من الظَّلماءِ مَزرورِ

    He says take it and the dawn has covered

    The dark houses with its light veil.

  3. وكشَّفَ البيتُ ذو الأطنابِ صفحتَه

    كأنه فوقَ صَرحٍ من قَواريرِ

    The room with carpets has uncovered its pages

    As if it was over a palace of glass.

  4. بيتٌ إذا خلعَ الدَّيجورُ حُلَّتَه

    لم يَخلَعِ الصّبحُ عنه ثوبَ دَيجورِ

    A room when daylight takes off its clothes

    The dawn does not take off the clothes of daylight from it.

  5. مُقَيَّدٌ في عُبابِ الماءِ يُسمِعُنا

    إذا أَطَفْنا به أنَّاتِ مأسورِ

    Tied in the deep water, it makes us hear

    When we move it, the moans of the captive.

  6. كأنَّ دُهْماً تبارَتْ في السِّباقِ به

    دُهْمُ الجِيادِ تبارَتْ في المَضاميرِ

    As if pure-bred horses competed on it

    The horses of steeds competed on the racetracks.

  7. إذا جَرَيْنَ على أرضٍ مُمَسَّكَةٍ

    أَثرْنَ بالجَرْيِ منها نَقْعَ كافورِ

    When they run on solid ground

    They mark with running the scent of camphor from it.

  8. مازِلْتُ أشربُها صِرفاً وأمزُجُها

    للظّبيِ من فَلَقِ الأحشاءِ مَسجورِ

    I kept drinking it pure and mixed

    For the gazelle from the split interiors cooked.

  9. في مجلسٍ راحَ طوعَ الرِّيحِ تُعنِتُه

    أنفاسُها بين تقديمٍ وتأخيرِ

    In a sitting the wind went to disturb it

    Its breaths with offering and delay.

  10. له جَناحانِ يَحْبُو الشَّرْبَ خَفقُهُما

    بلؤلؤٍ من حَبابِ الماءِ مَنثور

    It has two wings that canter with their flutter

    The drinking of pearls from the water sprinkled.

  11. غناؤنا فيه ألحانُ السُّكورِ إذا

    مُلَّ الغِناءُ وجنّاتُ النَّواعيرِ

    Our singing in it is the tunes of stillness when

    The singing is filled and the heavens of the fountains.

  12. كأنَّما الرّيحُ من طيبِ النَّسيمِ به

    تَسري إلينا برَيَّا الوَردِ من جُورِ

    As if the wind from the fragrance of the breeze in it

    Flows to us the smell of roses from thickets.

  13. حتى مضى اليومُ مُبيَضّاً شمائلُه

    وعارضَتْ شمسُه مصفرَّةَ النُّورِ

    Until the day went whitening its features

    And its sun opposed yellowed with light.
