What rhyme schemes charm their composer
That steal hearts with their gentle cadence
Protected yet giving freely of themselves
The finest made and most brilliant
Neglected brides without peer
The finest made and most brilliant
And the generosity of nobles brought them forth
While the stinginess of the ignoble burns them
Journey to glory ahead of the caravan
Freed from restraint, unfettered and loose
If my praises drive you mad
I have arrows that tear them apart
Wandering in lands whenever we parted
I saw only the wise distinguishing them
As for Ibn Fahd, I came upon
Sources he had not polished to a sheen
Skills compose praises like
Lights the shyness of dawn cracks open
Asking him one morning about
Rhyme schemes for which he yearned
Yet whenever one travelled to him
He turned away though he glimpsed it
Strange ones he named disdain but
The disdain of the noble still troubles them
I love no other and will not
Wilt their brocade or impugn it
I will soon sense the beauty of
Patience - may God grant it to them
