  4. And boughs sway, adorned with girdles,

    And suns shine forth, crowned by pitch-dark nights.

  5. And Babylon's wine goes round among the drinking companions—

    A bride possessing youth's beauty, though she is long unwed.

  6. Did you not see me let my rein trail in revelry,

    And so make my days laugh, though they were frowning?

  7. Nor did I heed the promise made to humankind;

    Whoever else may hope for it, I have despaired.
