You prepared for the night, when night grew dark
You prepared for night when night grew dark
and held gazes back from the paths,
And chained the glances away from the roads
branches of gold, stripped of leaves.
Branches of myrrh laid bare of leaves
Their fruits are like the horizon's lamps.
Their fruit like lanterns of the horizon
Their light spares the drinking companions the need for daybreak.
Their radiance suffices the repentant instead of daybreak
Their cure, if they fall ill, is beheading.
Their cure if sickness comes is a stroke of the lance
