1. The prince's noble qualities have fulfilled their promises to us.

    So the clouds of his generosity flowed for those seeking their bounty.

  2. Glory never lacks noble qualities in him;

    The merits of this age are among their merits.

  3. We would ransom him, if we could be a ransom for his life,

    From time's misfortune or its calamities.

  4. Glory complained when his eyelids complained of him;

    So his suffering is bound to hers.

  5. I have told the enemies, 'Not so fast! These are

    Trials from whose darkness dawn has emerged.'

  6. They said, 'He suffered eye inflammation that denied his eyelids

    The drowsiness of sleep and weakened their glances.'

  7. So I answered them, 'No inflammation befell the eye that

    Reddens with valor on the day of battle with its foes.

  8. Rather, it saw him waging war against his wealth

    With his gifts, so it flowed as was its custom.'
