1. It came, urging fertility onward as it advanced,

    and thunder drove the gray ones among its camels onward,

  2. with speech it brilliantly improvised.

    As though, in its ponderous passage,

  3. the wind revered it too much to hurry it,

    save by tugging at its trailing skirts.

  4. It drew near the earth, facing it,

    as though we were asking how it fared.

  5. And the blossoms had lent an ear to its words,

    and almost risen to welcome it.

  6. Then it lavished spittle from its limpid water,

    until, at its downpour, the earth would surely have said:

  7. “Indeed, a bucketful of mine surpasses its bucketfuls.”
