1. Time sought its revenge

    from Abu al-Fadl, and found relief.

  2. Hair blackened his face,

    so, compared with his arse, it is a nape.

  3. There was in his face a lamp

    of beauty, but it went out.

  4. O you who remain steadfast in fidelity

    to one who hates fidelity,

  5. why does a lover like you linger

    at a dwelling whose traces have vanished?
