Come, return to me with a wine bowl and a cup;
Oh bring me a cup and a glass,
and dispel my sorrow with a ewer and a bowl.
And dispel my worries with a pitcher and bowl,
And discuss with me the poetry of Abu Nuwas,
And remind me with the poetry of Abi Nuwas,
in a meadow like the poetry of Abu Nuwas,
In a garden like the poetry of Abi Nuwas,
and beneath a cloud in which lightning’s keen blades
With clouds where lightning flashes within,
are bare, while the gardens are clothed by it.
Tempests and gardens with cups,
And in it the armies of Eid have drawn
And the armies of rain have unleashed in it,
against the month of fasting swords of might.
On the month of fasting their sharp swords,
And the crescent appeared to us like half a necklace
The crescent appeared to us like a necklace,
upon the bosom of one clad in blue.
On the collar of one dressed in blue attire.
