1. If you wish to sweep away a rightful claim with falsehood,

    And drown an opponent who was not drowned,

  2. Then ask Abu Bakr; you will find in him one who follows

    Every path into the darkness of injustice.

  3. And coax him with honey whose face is anointed with saffron perfume,

    Though he is unworthy of kindly gifts,

  4. With red honey in white glass, as though it were

    A bride's robe suffused with saffron perfume.

  5. Within the breast it holds the coolness and sweetness of union,

    Though it greets the breast with the color of a blaze.

  6. As though the whiteness of almonds along its sides

    Were stars that shone in a sky of agate.
