I was nourished on it as a child, and if I sought to forsake it,
I nurtured him as a child, though now you'd have me abandon him,
It resisted, and the cradle's familiarity drew me to it.
Yet he refuses, and my cradle-love for him still urges me on.
Yet I fulfill my obligations through intention,
Though I intend to do what's right,
And devote my effort to honoring my pledges to them.
And strive my best to tend to them,
My heart, my inmost thoughts, and my speech serve them,
With all my heart, my soul, my tongue in their service,
So I reach the furthest limit of nearness in my distance.
So I might attain, though distant, the height of kinship.
