  3. To them was fastened every slender-waisted one,

    moving, yet never advancing a handspan.

  4. They groan like one in pain, though not from pain;

    they are pelted with pearl-like dew from it.

  5. So our day is a day of serenity and rain;

    so bring it before life runs out,

  6. and before a folded abode, far from unfolding,

    dark over its inhabitant, dust-covered,

  7. which, but for it, would hide the youth's luster of renown.
