أصبحتَ فَرداً يا أبا جَعفرٍ

أصبحتَ فَرداً يا أبا جَعفرٍ

لا سَلَفٌ دانٍ ولا نَسلُ

لا سَلَفٌ دانٍ ولا نَسلُ

You have become solitary, O Abu Ja‘far,

You have become alone, O Abu Ja'far,

With no close forebear and no offspring.

With no ancestors or descendants.

فأنتَ كالكَمأةِ مَجنِيَّةً

فأنتَ كالكَمأةِ مَجنِيَّةً

ليسَ لها فَرعٌ ولا أصلُ

ليسَ لها فَرعٌ ولا أصلُ

So you are like a harvested truffle:

You are like a severed palm tree,

It has neither branch nor root.

With neither branches nor roots.
