O you who apply depilatory after me, beware!
O you who come after me, beware!
Indeed, some rocks seek revenge.
Some rocks bear grudges still unsated.
Many a day I remained as fuel,
Full many a day dragged I my chain
Complaining of one fire's burning with another.
And quenched the flames of rage with rage.
A waistcloth, once the height of usefulness, has become
My loincloth, once so kind a friend,
Today the height of harm.
Is now my direst foe.
And trousers of fine silk have become brocade,
My shirking shifts of sendal silk
Painful and harsh against the skin.
Grip and chafe my body raw.
So it is as though the thighs were seared by it
Their touch upon my thighs is like
With sparks flying, spark after spark.
Hot cinders blown upon my flesh.
The stones have taken their revenge on me,
The stones have had their vengeance on me,
Though someone else had inflicted the injury they avenged.
While my clothes took vengeance on the stones!
