And a youth with a sweet nasal voice, like an innocent young gazelle,
He sang like a young nightingale
Grew up amid a herd of gazelles.
Among the branches during spring
On his cheek, a rose he guarded
With cheeks as red as roses
From plucking with a scorpion.
Plucked fresh from their stems
When he gave him wine to drink,
When he was served coffee
In the cup, all aflame,
In a flaming hot cup
He offered a fragrant dastanbūyah fruit in greeting,
He greeted with a dainty gesture
Like a gilded spearhead.
Like a gilded spear
