لجفنه سيفٌ فرى حده

قلوب قوم في الهوى أسرى

His eyelids are swords that reveal their sharpness

The hearts of a people are captives of love

ومن عجيبٍ نصرُ ألحاظهِ

وجفنه المكسورُ قد فرى

And the most wondrous victory is in his glances

Though his battered eyelids have seen it all
