ولقد ركبت على البريد فلا تسل
عن حالةٍ أصبحتُ منها ذائبا
Indeed, I rode the courier-post—do not ask
about a plight at which I made one melting away laugh.
أعييتُ من رفسي على فرسي فما
نقل الخطا في مشيةٍ إلا كبا
I grew exhausted from kicking while astride my horse; never
did it take a step in its gait without stumbling.
فغدوت أمشي واقفاً لا كالذي
قد قال فيما قبل أمشي راكبا
So I ended up walking upright—not like the one
who once before had said, “I walk while riding.”
