أتتنا بعودٍ حركته بأنملٍ

هي الماء لطفاً في اتباع الأناشيد

She came to us with an oud, setting it astir with fingertips;

Her fingertips were water itself in gentleness, following the songs.

وكاد وقد جست مثانيه يكتسى

بأوراقه لما جرى الماء في العود

And when she touched its paired strings, it nearly clothed itself

In its leaves, as water coursed through the oud’s wood.
