دخل الأير مرةً درب كسٍّ

تائها في مهامه وبطاح

The knight once entered a rugged path

Wandering in his efforts and fell down

ثم لما أعيا سرى قال دربي

بحياتي عليك درب الفقاح

Then when he was exhausted, he walked on and said:

By my life, you are a path of disgrace

فأتى الماء واستراح وغنى

طرق الجد غير طرقِ المزاح

So he came to the water and rested and sang

The ways of seriousness are not the ways of jest
