قالت وقد نظرت لزرقة أدمعي

أكذا يكون بكاء صب شيقِ

She said, as she looked at the blueness of my tears,

"Can the weeping of a passionate lover be like this?"

فأجبتها قد مات في جفني الكرى

فجرت دموعي في الحداد الأزرق

I answered her, "Sorrow has died in my eyelids,

So my tears flow in blue mourning."
