ورب نديم غاظه حين جادهُ
من القوم غيثٌ دائمُ الهطل بالنطلِ
By the Lord of hosts, when his cup-companion angers him,
He is a perpetual rain whose showers never cease.
فقلت له تأبى المروءة
أننا نخليك يا بستان فينا بلا نخل
So I said to him, “Honor refuses
That we leave you, oh oasis, in us without palms.”
