يا ناقُ خُبّي خَببا زِوَرّا

وقلبِّي منسَمكِ المُغبَرَا

O she-camel, pace gently, do not hurry,

My heart is choked with dust because of you.

وعارضي الليلَ إذا ما اخضَرّا

أَخبرَكِ البارحُ حينَ مَرَّا

When it grows dark greet my companions,

Last night as they passed, they told you

إذ سَوفَ تَلقَينَ جَواداً حُرّا

سَيّدَ قيسٍ زُفَرَ الأغرّا

That soon you would meet a noble steed,

Lord Qais, most generous of all Arabs.

ذاك الذي بايعَ ثم بَرّا

ونقضَ الآباءَ واستَمَرّا

He who pledged allegiance then absolved it

Broke with his forefathers and persevered.

قد نَفَعَ اللهُ به وضرّا

وكان في الحَربِ شِهاباً مُرّا

May God make him a blessing and a curse!

In war he was a flashing meteor.
