أُنادي خَليطا بائِناً حينَ أعصَفَت
شآميةُ الأقراب نكباءُ حَرجَفُ
I call out to a departing beloved, as there raged
a wind out of Syria, cold-flanked—a slanting, bitter gale.
ومن لا يَزَل يَستَحمِل الناسَ نفسَهُ
يعنَّف ويُنكرهُ الذي كان يَعرِفُ
And whoever keeps making people bear the burden of his company
is rebuked and disowned by one who once knew him.
