1. قد صبحت قباقِباً صَباحا

    مهريةٌ قد غلبت مِراحا

    She reached Qabāqib in the morning—

    a Mahri she-camel that had prevailed over rest,

  2. تحمِلُ من قيسٍ فتىً وَضّاحا

    سمحُ اليدينِ بالندى نفّاحا

    bearing a radiant young man of Qays,

    open-handed with bounty, showering gifts.

  3. كأنّ في الموكبِ حين لاحا

    بدراً يزيدُ النظرَ انفساحا

    As though, within the cavalcade, when he appeared,

    he were a full moon that makes the gaze widen.

  4. افلحَ ساقٍ بيديك امتاحا

    وقرّ عيناً ورَجا الرِّباحا

    The water-drawer prospered, drawing from your hands;

    his eye rejoiced, and he hoped for gain.

  5. الا ترى ما غشيَ الاركاحا

    وغشيَ الخابورَ والأملاحا

    Do you not see what has covered the enclosures,

    and covered the Khabur and al-Amlah?

  6. يُصفِّقون بالاكفِ الراحا

    لم يدع الثلجُ بها وجاحا

    They strike palm against palm;

    the snow has left no refuge there.

  7. باللهِ ترجو وبك النجاحا

    In God she hopes—and through you—for success.
