1. خُذها اليك من الغزال الاحور

    يحكي تنسمها نسيم العنبرِ

    Take it from the most beautiful gazelle

    Whose breath relates the scent of ambergris

  2. أهدى السرور غداة اهدى شادنٌ

    طرباً اليك تحية النيلوفر

    Joy brought on the morrow when a meadow exulted

    With a greeting of lilac blossoms for you

  3. متطوساً في لونه متعصفراً

    احسن بمنظره وطيب المخبر

    Adorned in its hue, saffron-yellow

    Most fair in its view, sweetest to sense

  4. أضحى يغار على ملاحة حسنه

    فيظلّ يسترها وان لم يستر

    It grew jealous in guarding its beauty

    So it shades it even when shade’s not its purpose

  5. ينضمّ ضمّ العاشقَينِ تلاقيا

    من بعد طول تفرقٍ وتحسُّر

    It draws together like two lovers meeting

    After long separation and longing

  6. وإذا تفتّح مكرهاً ابدى لنا

    لوناً يميل إلى فصوص الجوهر

    And when it grudgingly begins to bloom, it shows us

    A color leaning towards gemstone cores

  7. وكأنّما أوراقه مصقولة

    شق الحرير التستريّ الاخضر

    As if its leaves were polished

    By the splitting of green silken veils

  8. ويخاله الراءون نجماً ساطعاً

    لبس الحداد على فراق المشتري

    And the onlooker sees it as a shining star

    Dressed in mourning for the loss of Canopus

  9. إِلفُ المياه تشاكلا بلباقة

    فمتى يفارق شكله لم يبصر

    The waters befriend it with elegance

    So when does its shape ever escape sight?

  10. فيعوم طوراً ثم يرفع رأسه

    بتخنثٍ وتأودٍ وتكسُّر

    It floats for a while, then lifts its head

    With coquetry, desire, and fluttering
