والكَرمُ من كَرَمِ الطباع وفضلها

والراحُ روح أَخي الغرام الجاهدِ

Generosity stems from noble character and its excellence

And relaxation is the spirit of my love-struck brother

وكذلك سُمِّيَتِ الشمولُ لجمعها

شمل الخليط وضَمِّها للفارد

Thus it was called inclusion for encompassing it

Including the mix and bringing together the individuals

وتفاءَلوا باسم المدام لأنَّ في

إدمانِها إسعادَ كلِّ مُساعدِ

And they were optimistic about the name wine because

Its addiction brings happiness to every helper

وهي العقار لأنهم عقروا بها

ما جمَّعوا من طارفٍ أو تالِدِ

It is medicine because with it they treated

What they gathered of pleasures or progeny

فاعتَض بها من كل شيءٍ فائتٍ

واغضض بها عينَ العدوِّ الحاسِدِ

So with it he made up for everything missed

And with it he closed the eye of the envious enemy
