1. يا قائِصُ أغدُ عَلَينا

    بِزُرَّقٍ مَخبورِ

    O hunter, come to us tomorrow

    With a tamed, docile falcon

  2. مُناهِضٍ للبَوازي

    مغالبٍ للصُقورِ

    Defying the open spaces,

    Conquering the other falcons.

  3. لَهُ جَناحٌ وَثيرٌ

    مُضاعَفُ التَنميرِ

    It has a thick wing

    Doubly lined,

  4. مُظاهرٌ ببرودٍ

    مُبَطَّنٌ بحَريرِ

    Appearing cool externally

    But internally lined with silk.

  5. وَكفُّ سَبعٍ هصورٍ

    مُحَجَّنِ الأُظفور

    It has the clutches of a mighty lion,

    Its talons are sharpened.

  6. تقول فيه الخطا

    طيف لززت من صقور

    Its heels tell the sand:

    A specter that shook the falcons.

  7. وَمِنسَرٌ ذو انعِطافٍ

    كقَرنِ ظبيٍ غَريرِ

    It has a bending mast

    Like the horn of a young wild cow.

  8. في هامَةٍ كنفَتهُ

    كالجندَلِ المُستَديرِ

    In a shirt that suits it

    Like a round hawk.

  9. وصَدرُ بازٍ طَريرٍ

    مُفَوَّفُ التَحبيرِ

    And the chest of a flying falcon

    With ruffled feathers.

  10. كأَنَّهُ ثَوبُ وَشيٍ

    مُعرَّجُ التَسييرِ

    As if it is the garment of happiness

    With twisted strands.

  11. له ظنابيبُ هِقلٍ

    وعينُ صقرٍ ذعورِ

    It has some body parts of a skillful diver

    And the eye of a sharp-eyed eagle.

  12. تخالها حين يعتا

    ن جذوةً من سعير

    You imagine when it flies

    A spark from hell.

  13. له بديعةُ صوتٍ

    كنبذة من زَميرِ

    It has a wonderful voice

    Like a flute song.

  14. إذا استمرت لسمع ال

    غادي لشرب الخمورِ

    If it lasted for an ear

    Of one who drinks wine,

  15. أَلهَتهُ عن كلِّ نايٍ

    يحكي لئمٍّ وزير

    It would distract him from any flute

    That tells of blame and disgrace.
