I hunted a gazelle from the hillsides
And captured a partridge from the meadows
So I bring to you this moon-like one
Refined of beauty, sweet and graceful
Who gladdens the eyes and warms the hearts
And excites the enemy and satisfies a friend
She is adorned with two precious bracelets
And a fine garment embroidered with patterns
Their gold threads in soft skin
Like your writing with ink, delicate tracings
Her legs give drink to the onlooker
And her eyes are lined with kohl
And this one I bring to you, a leopard
Handsome in form, smooth and well-mannered
Who pays off debts and ends discord
And draws the companion near and entertains a friend
Her tail cries out, “a Yemeni dynasty!”
And in her eyes one thinks is fire
You'd think her flashes were lightning
And her zeal, a catapult
And this one, a dove, tender
Clothed in solid, unpierced armor
She nearly flies with the winds
And outpaces in speed a wildfire
