مُتَعاشقانِ مكاتمانِ هَواهُما
قد نامَ بينهما العِتابُ فطابا
Two lovers concealing their passion
Resentment has faded between them so they are content
يتناقلانِ اللحظَ من جَفنَيهما
فكأنّما يتدارسانِ كتابا
Exchanging glances from their eyes
As if studying a book together
وإذا هَدَت عينُ الرقيبِ تخالست
كفّاهما خُلَسَ السَلامِ سِلابا
And if the watcher's eyes grow heavy, they secretly converse
Their palms whispering greetings furtively
بأناملٍ منهُ لوحُ مدادها
وأناملٍ منها كُنسينَ خِضابا
His fingers being the ink and her fingers the parchment
As if she harvests grapes from his palm
فكأنما يجني لها من كَفِّهِ
عِنَباً وتجنيه لهُ عُنّابا
And he harvests berries from hers
