قلتُ لها لا تُكثري

خُذي فؤادي أو ذَري

I said to her, "Do not be excessive.

Take my heart or abandon it.

حبُّك ما فارقني

في سفري أو حضري

Your love never left me

In my travels or home.

فليتَ شعري ما الذي

عندك قالت لي حري

If only I knew what it was

That she had. She said to me, "be patient."

قلتُ فهاتيه إذاً

قالت نعم في السَحَرِ

I said "Give it to me then!"

She said "Yes, at dawn."

فلم أزل في ليلتي

مغتبطاً بالنَظَرِ

I spent my night

Delighted at the sight.

حِرٌ كبيرٌ أملسٌ

في حُسن وَجهِ الخَزَرِ

A smooth, large pearl

In the beauty of emerald's face.

لم تَرَ عيني مِثلَهُ

إلا حِرِ أُمِّ البُحتُري

My eyes never saw its equal,

Except the pearl of Umm Al-Buhturi.
