I yearned for the return of my beloved's hand

To the waist-sash and the belt's place

But I was too weak to arrive at dawn

That would reproach me for my times of heedlessness

If in this life I was miserly in my affection

Even if I reached the utmost in devotion

I would reconcile with one who befriends me so we walk

Together despite our disagreements and accord

And the covenant of love is kept if we are

Safe from hypocrisy in our affection

And I cut off all kinship and connection

If he mixes people with artifice

    And how many fine gatherings

Are ruined by the evil of parting
