1. بَلَونا فَضلَ مالِكَ يا اِبنَ لَيلى

    فَلَم تَكُ عِندَ عَثرَتِنا أَخانا

    We tested the favor of your friend O son of Layla

    Yet you were not loyal to us in our stumbling

  2. كَأَنَّ رِحالَنا في الدارِ حُلَّت

    إِلى عُفرِ اللَهازِمِ مِن عُمانا

    As if our departure from the abode was resolved

    To the wastes of defeat from Oman

  3. فَكَيفَ جَمَعتَ مَسأَلَةً وَحِرصاً

    وَعِندَ الفَقرِ زَحّاراً أُنانا
