عتقت حتى لو اتصلت

بلسان ناطق وفمِ

Even if I were eloquent of tongue,

And my mouth fluent and free,

لاحتبت في القوم ماثلةً

ثم قُصّت قصّة الأممِ

I would not love to dwell among the folk,

Then hear the tales of nations and their grief.
